LOGAN CIRCLE -- You don’t win the D.C. restaurant industry’s top honor for ‘Hottest Restaurant Bar Scene’ with a stale cocktail menu. And, sure enough, Jeff and Barbara Black’s top ranked Black Jack seized the tail end of Independence Day to announce a collection of 10 original handcrafted cocktails designed for summer by mixology brothers Ari and Micah Wilder.

Sassafras.

Blue Vein.

Joining longstanding customer favorites, such as the Blue Vein (Tito’s Vodka, lime, house-made cassis and house-made ginger beer), Sazerac (Rittenhouse Bonded Rye, Kubler Absinthe, Peychaud’s Bitters and lemon gomme), and Maple Derby (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, grapefruit, lime, ginger and maple) are a new series of festive additions, including the Sassafras (Bowmore Single Malt Scotch, Clear Creek Kirschwasser, black birch gomme, smoked cherry ice), El Dorado (Tanteo Jalapeno Tequila, Vida Mezcal, habanero, lemon, pineapple, and orange bitters), and Bramble & Thorn (rooibos tea-infused corn whiskey, Leopold Brothers Blackberry Liquor, mint, lemon, and the Wilder Bros Blackberry Soda).

Two frozen cocktails have also been added to the menu, specifically as welcome relief from the warmer weather: the Cobbler (rye whiskey, Rothman Apricot Liqueur, peach, mint and honey), and Velvet Hour (rum, Velvet Falernum, Averna Amaro, mango, ginger and Goslings Float).

Peep Show.

In helping craft the new drink menu at Black Jack, which also boasts nine beers on tap and up to 40 beers by the can, the Wilder brothers sought to transform classic recipes that inspired them into progressive new signature drinks.

Maple Derby.

The Colonial.

To accomplish this, they identified a host of ‘lost ingredients’ and are now recreating them on an exclusive basis for both Black Jack and sister restaurant Pearl Dive Oyster Palace below.

That’s, after all, how you win awards!
