NORTHWEST -- D.C. urbanites love nothing more than pairing a fine dining and drinking experience with celebrating a great cause! So it came as no surprise to us that the second annual 'Holiday Luck: A Lucky Dog Dinner', jointly hosted by
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue,
Wagtime DC, and
Hudson Restaurant & Lounge, quickly sold out when first announced.
In kicking off the evening Wednesday night, Executive Director
Mirah Horowitz welcomed guests and introduced a short video about
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, which detailed some of the challenges the organization faces when rescuing animals.
The two-year-old nonprofit has already rescued more than 2,000 homeless and abandoned animals and found them well-matched and loving homes.
And since a wagging tale can speak far more loudly than any video could ever hope to, while sipping specialty cocktails from the bar yesterday evening, guests were invited to gather around Hudson's outdoor fire pits to shake paws with some of Lucky Dog’s very own four-legged representatives.
Guests were then treated to a scrumptious and beautifully executed four-course dinner by Hudson’s new Executive Chef,
Demetrio Zavala. Borrowing a move from man's best friend, we were practically licking our plates clean at the end!
Between courses, entertainer and magician
David Breth wowed diners with his famous card and bottle tricks. And while guests sipped coffee and other after dinner drinks, they were treated to a veritable concert from both live guitar and cello musicians.
Of course, no charity dinner would be complete without the requisite silent auction and the Lucky Dog Dinner was no exception. A variety of local businesses and restaurants had donated items for the night, with all proceeds benefitting the rescue organization.
Some of the goodies up for grabs, included a generous dinner at Hudson, a large duffel bag brimming with
Under Armor gear, and a signed
Capitals jersey from
Nicklas Backstrom.
While doggie bags aren't an unusual sight to see at Hudson (customers always leave happy and full), the plates of doggie cookies near the door were certainly a first last night! And we know more than a few lucky dogs who were the happy recipients of said treats.
Hudson Restaurant & Lounge: Best friend to dog and man alike!
