NORTHWEST -- The popular bar and dining room at Alan Popovsky's Hudson Restaurant & Lounge came alive even earlier than usual Monday night as Warner Bros. hosted an exclusive red carpet premiere party for today's DVD launch of Alex Ovechkin: The GR8.

The star of the new documentary, Washington Capitals Left Wing Alexander Ovechkin, was personally on-hand to greet fans, sign autographs, talk with members of the press, and simply celebrate his DVD's debut.

Not to let their team captain walk down the red carpet without backup, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (owner of the Caps) Founder Ted Leonsis and Partner Jack Davies were two of the first guests to arrive to show their support for arguably the city's biggest hockey superstar.

Alex's father, Mikhail Ovechkin, and NHL Executive Vice President of Marketing Brian Jennings were also in attendance.

After making their way past the red ropes guarding the entrance to the well-liked Dupont Circle restaurant, guests were treated to complimentary glasses of champagne and an energized atmosphere courtesy of the night's live DJ.

While Alex mingled among the crowd, scenes from the DVD were simulcast on flat screens thoughtfully scattered throughout the venue. Executive Chef Demetrio Zavala presided over an endless parade of savory bites that emerged from the kitchen throughout the night and the unusually temperate weather even enabled the crowd to take advantage of Hudson's inviting patio area.

With the marketing material for the DVD release touting a "look inside the life of a driven competitor who honors his fans, reflects on his roots and burns to win it all this season," as we were driving away we couldn't help but think that it couldn't have starred a nicer guy.

See you at next year's Stanley Cup, Alex!
