NORTHWEST -- Team Brunette's dynasty was at long last broken on Saturday afternoon during the sixth annual Blondes vs. Brunettes D.C. powderpuff football game.

With the score tied at 20-20 in overtime, Kate Kreager pitched the football to Kimberly Argy who ran it into the end zone, for the final touchdown that delivered Team Blonde its first victory since the non-profit was founded in 2005.

And while the bragging rights to the fairer team (both competitively and literally in terms of hair color) must certainly have been sweet to Team Blonde, the real winner of this year's game was Alzheimer's research, for which both blondes and brunettes raised more than $100,000 for the National Capital Area Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect for this year's game, with the sun shining brightly on George Washington University's Mount Vernon athletic field over the weekend.

Game commentary came courtesy of 94.7 FRESH FM's Tommy McFly with Comcast SportsNet's Chick Hernandez calling the play-by-play.

Friends and family members began to arrive just past noon in order to watch the players warm-up. Banners were quickly unfurled and t-shirts prominently displayed thereby signaling each attendee's allegiance that afternoon.

Four-legged companions weren't even immune to the rivalry with most dogs sporting the team colors of their respective two-legged best friends (pink in the case of Team Blonde or blue for Team Brunette).

Sponsors vitaminwater and popchips! were also out in full force ensuring that players and fans alike remained hydrated and energized. Georgetown Cupcake, another event sponsor, had even created two signature treats for the day, with all proceeds being donated to the Blondes vs. Brunettes organization.

One cheerful brunette probably said it best during the day's celebratory afterparties at Glover Park's Town Hall and Gin & Tonic: "Congratulations to Team Blonde on their win this year, but the next game day is less than a year away!"
