SOUTHEAST -- On one of the final truly hot days of summer, the rear alley to 8th Street, SE was hit with a refreshing splash of color on Wednesday night for a
vitaminwater-sponsored block party promoting community-driven art.
In a rather poetic exercise aptly titled "Liquid Soul", painters from the artist collective know as
AM Radio had been asked to demonstrate live the "symbolism between the soul of an artist and the medium" being used.
The catch, however, was that a flavor of vitaminwater had to be reflected in each work of art as well as within the actual paints being used to create each piece.
Nigerian artist
Aniekan Udofia, used the "power-c" flavor both figuratively and literally, for example, in his work demonstrating "strength."
The goal of the evening was to promote a truly authentic artistic experience while simultaneously supporting the D.C. artist community, with a special emphasis on public space art.
Guests were treated to coolers packed with ice cold vitaminwater and smartwater, as well as a lively soundtrack courtesy of
DJ 2-Tone Jones.
In a nod to the event's community-minded roots, one of the more popular attractions was a "crowdsourced" group wall painting that visitors collectively created with paint throughout the night.
Refreshing indeed!
