Ashley Taylor & Pamela Sorensen Launch Refugees International's Young Humanitarian Circle With 'Cocktails For A Cause'

By Daniel Swartz on July 16, 2010
DUPONT CIRCLE -- With the growing importance of the role young adults play in effecting change on matters of public policy, program advocacy, and philanthropy, non-profits have become increasingly attuned to the challenge of how to engage such an energetic support base.

Building upon such an opportunity, Refugees International marked the launch of its new Young Humanitarian Circle (YHC) on Thursday night with a cocktail party inside the popular glass walls of Hudson Restaurant & Lounge.

Dubbed "Cocktails For A Cause", the evening attracted hundreds of the District's young professionals to Dupont Circle after work yesterday to learn more about the refugee advocacy organization's mission.

Guests started to arrive just before 7 p.m. and, within an hour, Hudson was packed full of young do-gooders. With 10% of all proceeds from food and drink sales that night directly benefiting the advocacy organization, the crowd was encouraged to enthusiastically sample from the drink specials being offered at the bar.

YHC Steering Committee Co-Chairs, Ashley Taylor and Pamela Sorensen, served as the night's gracious hosts, welcoming newcomers, answering questions, and building awareness of the organization's many programs and services among the attendees.

Perhaps the most poignant portion of the evening, however, came as Camilla Olsen, an advocate for Refugees International, recounted a few firsthand stories about her time spent with the non-profit inside the Democratic Republic of Congo:

The YHC of Refugees International has numerous lectures, parties, and networking opportunities planned for the rest of year. To learn more, please visit the organization's website.
