The Washington Ballet's Jeté Society Gets Happy at The Sofitel!

By Daniel Swartz on June 25, 2010
NORTHWEST -- Dozens of well-dressed Washingtonians braved the unseasonably warm weather Thursday evening to attend a happy hour fundraiser organized by The Washington Ballet's Jeté Society.

Held on the outside patio of the luxurious Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square, last night's soiree provided guests with chilled cocktails and tasty morsels -- all expertly prepared by the hotel bar and lounge's mixologists and chefs.

Never missing a moment to tap into the creativity of its members, the Jeté Society even sponsored an online "name the cocktail contest" prior to the event, with the creator of the most inventive name winning a free drink. Keara O'Connor took the prize with her "Sissonne Citron" entry (a sissonne being a ballet term for a style of jump and the citron working because the cocktail contained lemon/lime juice).

Vittles and libations aside though, the purpose of yesterday's happy hour was to raise funds for the Jeté Society's Scholarship Fund. Many of The Washington Ballet's dancers travel from distant parts of the world to attend the school and receive full-tuition scholarships, housing, and food subsidies as well. The Scholarship Fund ensures that no student is turned away due to financial constraints.

Bottom line. Who needs air conditioning when you've got an event as cool as this?
