POTOMAC, MARYLAND -- With the craps table buzzing, the slots machines flashing, and the roulette wheel spinning inside the clubhouse, the "Believe in a Cure Monte Carlo Night" was just getting started on Saturday night as we made our way through the rolling wooded countryside that surrounds the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm private golf course.

A fun-filled night organized by Team Believe in a Cure for Cancer in support of fashion model Katie Rost's candidacy for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2010 Woman of the Year award, the fundraising event was co-hosted by the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation.

And while the boxing legend himself wasn't able to make it that evening, Katie -- wearing a gorgeous designer dress by Roberto Cavalli -- graciously served as both hostess and award nominee, welcoming visitors, posing for pictures with guests and media alike, thanking donors, and even finding the time to dance with some of the young children in attendance.

A childhood friend of Sugar Ray, Derrik Holmes -- an accomplished boxer in his own right during the '70s and '80s -- also mingled among the crowd, serving as the foundation's representative for the night. Also in attendance were Washington Redskins "Ring of Fame" member Brian Mitchell and AskMissA.com founder Andrea Rodgers, in addition to many other local media personalities, philanthropists, and community leaders.

With DJ Neekola serving-up the soundtrack for the evening, guests were free to try their luck at any of the games of chance that had been set up for the occasion. The night's winners were awarded a variety of prizes, including bottles of Cabana Cachaça rum and Barefoot Bubbly Brut Cuvée, as well as a boxing glove signed by Carmine Basilio and Jake LaMotta and a football autographed by New Orleans Saint -- and former Redskins Quarterback -- Mark Brunell.

Guests were also treated to a swimwear fashion show modeled by some of the Washington Wizard Girls and a silent auction supported by local area businesses.

While the 2010 Woman of the Year award is still up for grabs, Katie Rost certainly owned Saturday night. Help her campaign by making a donation today!
