NORTHEAST -- While the District is certainly no stranger to a star-studded
movie or television show premiere, it's still nevertheless a standout moment when such projects bow and are homegrown.
Such was the case Saturday afternoon, as
BET Networks hosted the exclusive Washington, D.C. screening of the entertainment powerhouse's latest original series:
Being Mary Jane.
Starring actress
Gabrielle Union as a successful TV news anchor "who remains devoted to a family that doesn’t share her motivation", the intense drama follows her character, Mary Jane, as she juggles work, love, life, and her family commitments.
Beyond an early look at the show itself inside the gleaming glass interior of BET's Northeast corporate headquarters, guests to this weekend's private D.C. premiere were treated to an intimate conversation with Executive Producer
Mara Brock Akil.
Akil, of course, was the creator of the network's previous award-winning comedy
The Game and the smash box office romantic comedy
Jumping the Broom. A testament to her longstanding working relationship with BET, she was proudly introduced on Saturday by company Chairman and CEO
Debra Lee.
Being Mary Jane premieres on BET on Tuesday, July 2nd at 10:30pm/9:30c.
