NORTHWEST -- With a recording career spanning more than 16 years, including several multi-platinum-selling albums, Matchbox Twenty has built a sizeable fan base since it first exploded onto the music landscape in 1996.

And a lucky group of the band's Washington-based fans were treated to an exclusive series of live acoustic performances by lead singer Rob Thomas and lead guitarist Kyle Cook on Friday, as the rockers blanketed the District’s airwaves during a whirlwind promotional tour touting their latest release, North.

Thomas and Cook kicked-off the morning with an intimate concert for the Jack Diamond Morning Show, inside MIX 107.3’s Friendship Heights studios.

Performing live before a select group of contest winners, as well as a radio audience of thousands, the duo handily breezed through a selection of fan favorites from past albums in addition to current hit single “She’s So Mean.”

At lunchtime, however, the band expanded their concert footprint considerably in teaming with 94.7 Fresh FM The Tommy Show, for a sprawling show that took over the cavernous underground performance space at The Hamilton Live.

Indeed, prior to the doors opening, hundreds of lucky listeners could be found patiently waiting outside the massive restaurant and performance space, in a line that stretched around the block.

A veritable Mad Season, it was. Perhaps.
