SAX Revamps As Vibrant Cocktail Lounge & Bar; Introduces Invitation Only ‘Privilege List’!

By Daniel Swartz on July 3, 2012
NORTHWEST -- Since it first opened its gilded doors in May 2011, SAX has been a hot topic of conversation among the District’s foodies, cocktail hounds, and celebrity watchers alike.

From the repainting of certain murals that proved to be too controversial post launch (the venue is nevertheless back pushing the art envelope once again) to lavish, celebrity-studded parties, the cavernous 11th Street space has never had a problem keeping tongues wagging.

And in its boldest move to date, SAX has completely revamped its business model by doing away with its former gourmet menu and instead now focusing exclusively on providing a unique cocktail lounge and bar experience to its VIP clientele.

Beyond the elimination of SAX’s dinner menu (a series of small plates will still be available for order), the biggest news to emerge from the space’s facelift is the introduction of a new door policy: allowing only those on the establishment’s private guest list and their friends to have full access to the lounge.

The creation of the so-called ‘Privilege List’ was designed to provide guests, once inside, with a personalized and preferred entertaining experience unique to SAX’s beautifully decorated, multi-storied space. While anyone can apply to get on the list via the SAX website, very few will actually make the cut, with each applicant’s activity in the D.C. social scene, network, influence as tastemakers, and reputation all criteria for consideration.

“We decided to launch ‘The Privilege List’ to bring D.C. an exclusive and exciting lounge and entertainment venue,” said SAX owner Errol Lawrence. “Now, Washingtonians on ‘The Privilege List’ will have a venue that will cater to their needs and where they will always receive preferred treatment."

Essentially, SAX is becoming what is known as a ‘members preferred’ venue which, while providing access to everyone, offers list members certain preferential amenities, such as bypassing the line at the front door, receiving priority treatment for tables, and invitations to special events.

The first of these VIP parties will take place next Wednesday, July 11th, as SAX partners with Belvedere Vodka for the invitation only ‘Privilege List’ launch party presided over by special guest mixologist Claire Smith.

Seduction, thy name is SAX…
