The Guest List:
PENN QUARTER -- Toontown had nothing on Washington Wednesday evening, as the Riot Act Comedy Theater threw open its doors for a guest list-only preview party for members of the media, friends, and family.

Trying out a barrage of new material and in his trademark series of voices, covering everything from the audience to the obscure, actor and comedian Charles Fleischer (the voice of Roger Rabbit!) served as the night’s headlining act.

He was joined earlier in the evening by local comics Big Al Goodwin and Tony Woods, who each delivered a hilarious set and were met by thunderous applause from the hundreds of attendees in the audience.

Local D.C. comic Tony Woods.

In addition to members of the media, yesterday’s celebration, which was closed to the general public, included a select lucky few Venga users, who took advantage of an exclusive offer posted on the D.C.-based startup’s much talked about mobile application.

The latest addition to Penn Quarter’s burgeoning list of entertainment destinations, Riot Act is a state of the art comedy club and event facility that spans more than 13,000-squarefeet across two different levels. Owners Geoff Dawson, Marjorie Heiss, and John Xereas (also members of the teams behind Rocket Bar, Iron Horse Taproom, and Buffalo Billiards) have worked tirelessly on building-out the well-situated space (on the back of the Spy Museum) over the past few months.

And it shows. The massive venue boasts its own production booth and digital recording studio to facilitate the broadcast of nationally-televised acts. In addition to table-side service inside the main performance area, two well-stocked bars – one on each floor – ensure that a drink is never more than an arms-length away and a generous menu, packed with everything from spanakopita to sliders to short ribs, means that no one will ever leave hungry.

Riot Act’s fall and winter lineup reads like a who’s who of local comics, intermixed with many popular national performers. Washingtonians can expect to see the likes of Tony Woods, Paul Mooney, and Jeff Caldwell in Penn Quarter, among many others throughout the rest of year.

Ticket holders are virtually guaranteed to have the last laugh!
