PENN QUARTER -- With the term “rag and bone” derived from the British phrase for a junk peddler, innovative designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville definitely proved that one man’s trash is another’s treasure, through the success of their similarly named fashion label in recent years.

And today, the District will become the first city in the United States outside of New York, to host one of Rag & Bone’s prized standalone retail stores. Located at 3067 M Street, NW (the former MAC Cosmetics location), Georgetown’s most recent addition boasts 1,500-square-feet of prime space spread out across two floors.

Monday night, Marcus and David hosted an intimate dinner inside Penn Quarter’s newly-opened Fiola restaurant for friends and members of the press. We spotted everyone from DC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Karen Sommer Shalett to the Corcoran’s Kristin Guiter and Rachel Cothran to CityShopGirl’s Kelly Collis to UrbanDaddy's Jeff Dufour.

Rachel Cothran, Kristin Guiter, Maria Trabocchi, and Philippa Hughes.

Also on the guest list were the D.C. ambassadors to Rag & Bone’s “DIY Project”. A guerilla marketing campaign designed to show Washingtonians how some of their stylish counterparts interpret the label’s Fall/Winter 2011 clothing through the personal way in which they wear the collection, the DIY Project was first launched in New York with models Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sasha Pivovarova, Lily Aldridge, and Edita Vilkeviciute.

Amanda and Curtis Polk.

The District’s ambassadors include many notable and familiar names, including philanthropist Amanda Polk (KEEN, Fashion for Paws), style icons Aureta Thomollari and Brooke Kao, DC United Head Coach Ben Olsen, Washington Ballet Creative Director Septime Webber, DJ Adrian Loving, 8112 StudiosNick Cambata, and The Pink Line Project’s Philippa Hughes, among a half-dozen or so others.

Monday’s night’s 45 diners feasted on a multi-course tasting menu courtesy of Fiola’s Chef Fabio and Maria Trabocchi and left happy sporting the latest spring scarf and tank from Rag & Bone’s Spring 2011 collection.

A lot of treasure in Marcus and David’s trash…
