Famed restaurateur
Richard Sandoval is back at it in 2015, with Thursday's upcoming grand opening of his newest D.C. concept:
Mango Tree.
With a menu that brings together all four of Thailand's main culinary regions, the newly constructed restaurant is the latest to open in the rapidly burgeoning
CityCenter neighborhood.
British Chef de Cuisine
Paul Kennedy will oversee day-to-day operations for the 140-seat, second story dining room and 45-seat, ground floor bar/lounge (an additional 24-seat outdoor terrace will also be open during warmer months).
Menu highlights include
Tom Yum, a lemongrass and kaffir lime-infused spicy and sour broth with Maine lobster, and
Goong Mung Gorn Phad Phong Karee, which consists of a baked Maine lobster dressed in yellow curry powder with egg and onion.
Like all of Sandoval's restaurants, Mango Tree will boast an extensive beverage program, including handcrafted cocktails, a curated beer selection, and an approachable wine list that was carefully selected to marry well with the flavors of Thai cuisine.
Thursday's opening will mark the first U.S. location for the Mango Tree brand, which now spans some 70+ locations across the globe. The original restaurant resides in the heart of Bangkok in a beautiful house built almost 100 years ago during the reign of King Rama VI. The restaurant is named after the great mango tree planted in front of the former house.
Mango Tree is located at 929 H Street, NW and opens for dinner on Thursday, January 15th. Lunch service will begin the following Monday. Reservations can be made either over the phone at (202) 408-8100 or on the
restaurant website.
