With today's opening of
MXDC for dinner (lunch service will be added in a few weeks), celebrity chef
Todd English re-establishes his footprint in the District.
Indeed, while the Texas-born restaurateur, author, and TV personality has more than a dozen eateries scattered all over the country (Boston, NYC, Los Angeles, Nantucket, Orlando, etc.), Washington has remained an elusive market for him, ever since the closing of Olives in P.J. Clarke's current space back in 2009.
Times have changed though and D.C.'s restaurant business is booming. MXDC adds fuel to such foodie fire with a menu consisting of small plates and family-style dishes that "offer a fresh perspective on traditional Mexican cuisine."
The 135-seat, two story dining room has received a fresh facelift from its Galileo III days (the space's former tenant) and boasts a modernly rustic design, complete with copper chandeliers and lush decorative accents.
Beyond the food, which is overseen by Chef de Cuisine and Mexico native
Juan Carlos Pavlovich, MXDC boasts a world-class tequila program featuring approximately 100 of English's favorite tequilas from around the world.
MXDC is located at 600 14th Street, NW. Reservations may be made online via OpenTable or by calling (202) 393-1900.
