Fight For Children's signature annual
Fight Night celebration returned to the Washington Hilton last week, for the 26th incarnation of the enormously popular charity event.
Over two thousand heavyweights of business, government, and philanthropy, including
Under Armour Founder & CEO
Kevin Plank, Virginia
Governor Terry McAuliffe, Washington Capitals and Wizards co-owner
Raul Fernandez, and D.C.
Mayor Muriel Bowser, among many others, turned out for Thursday's benefit.
The black tie affair, easily one of the District's most looked forward to each year, is also one of the area's most lucrative, with a daunting fundraising goal of $5 million extended in support of low-income children in D.C. and Baltimore (last year's event raised a record-breaking $4.7 million).
Beneficiary organization Fight For Children was founded in 1990 by the late
Joseph E. Robert, Jr. as a way for him and his employees to give back to the community and has since gone on to raise or leverage some $450 million for education and healthcare programs.
Beyond the obvious boxing bouts, guests to Fight Night 2015 enjoyed music from
Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Electric Light Orchestra, as well as performances by the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens cheerleaders.
A special treat this year was a preview of upcoming Warner Bros. motion picture Creed, which serves as the next chapter in the Academy Award-winning 'Rocky' anthology. Film star Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler were also in attendance in a charitable display of force.
