The Washington Hilton overflowed with heavyweights from the worlds of business, government, philanthropy, and entertainment on Thursday evening, during
Fight For Children's signature annual
Fight Night celebration.
Crossing the quarter century mark in 2014, the blowout benefit -- easily one of Washington's largest each year -- raised a record-breaking $4.7 million to support low-income children in D.C. and Baltimore.
The nonprofit was founded in 1990 by the late
Joseph E. Robert, Jr. as a way for him and his employees to give back to the community and has since gone on to raise or leverage some $450 million for education and healthcare programs.
This year's banner fundraiser was co-chaired by
Under Armour Founder & CEO
Kevin Plank and
Raul Fernandez, Fight for Children Chairman and Vice Chairman of
Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
Beyond the lofty charitable amount raised, 2014's Fight Night was notable for also featuring two World Boxing Council-sanctioned championship bouts for the first time ever.
Numerous legendary boxers were in attendance including
Gerry Cooney,
Julio Cesar Chaves,
Roberto Duran,
Larry Holmes,
Ray Mancini,
Eric Morales,
Aaron Pryor, and
Mia St. John.
Guests also enjoyed music from Tony Award-nominee
Michael Cavanaugh, as well as performances by the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens cheerleaders.
