Chef Richard Sandoval brings his latest concept to the District this evening, with the downtown opening of
Toro Toro.
A self-described 'Pan Latin Steakhouse', the modernly designed venue (leather couches, cowhide accents, metallic chandeliers) strives to blend a sultry New York City-esque lounge environment with the traditional warmth of South and Central American dining.
In addition to an extensive 'churrasco' (grill) menu of steak, lamb, pork and veal ($33-$75), Toro Toro will also offer a lengthy list of both cold and hot small plates ($5-$16). Chef de Cuisine
Steve Hartzell's dishes range from the expected (guacamole, calamari) to the exotic (swordfish dip, yucca fries).
Anyone who's waited in line outside of
El Centro or
Masa 14 knows how Sandoval's establishments only grow more alive as the night goes on. And Toro Toro is no different, with dancing expected to overtake the venue's lower level bar and lounge for all kinds of late night fun.
Helping fuel the dance floor will be an innovative cocktail program that blends various handcrafted creations with ultra-premium Latin spirits. Two barrel-aged drinks, the
Buena Vida and the
Manhattan de Toro, will be available, in addition to a well-curated collection of 130 wines from around the world and more than 12 types of beer.
